The Matter Of CHRISTIAN Commitment-- Part I

First and foremost, I must say that to God all glory is due ... from the message preached by brother David, this blog and whatever falls upon it from my own hand.
Let me just share with you that I sit in a hospital room writing these words on paper... I'll type them on the computer when I get home (hopefully tonight or tomorrow, God willing). What am I doing in the hospital??? Well, my wife is having some problems with the pregnancy. Our un-born son (Elias Stephen Daniel Frost) is expected to be born on Dec. 26th... However, due to some problems he just may come a little sooner than expected... we'll soon see. The problem lies not with him but with Nicole (that's my wife)... They say that her liver, kidneys and blood pressure is not all that great right now, plus she has preaclampcia (don't know how to spell it).
I'll keep you all updated on that whole situation... but for now lets get into the first topic for this blog.
Well, if you have not yet heard the sermon "Did God Get All That He Purchased" By: David Gibbs, then I would strongly recommend that you download it here:
It's in four parts because that's the way it uploaded from my computer. I tried to find it somewhere else on the net and couldn't find it anywhere. I thought it fitting to get this blog site going with a close look at the sermon that this blog site is named after... Just so everyone gets a clear understanding of the title.
I think that the best way to do this analization would be to do it in four parts being that the sermon uploaded and must be downloaded in four sections. Not to mention the fact that there is a great deal to look at when we consider the entire message, therefore it would be the best to break it down and look at it in parts.
The first section of the sermon is about 15-16 minutes long and the very first thing that brother David brings up is the matter of "Christian commitment"... So I have titled this analysis "The Matter Of CHRISTIAN Commitment"

David says that America has a large number of Christians... He says the problem is Gods people not doing what Gods book says Gods people are supposed to do. However, I would word it very differently:
"American has a large number of people that profess to be Christians", However that's all it is-lip service. Lets look at Titus 1:16 "They profess that they know God;but in works they deny him..." And let me tell you dear friend being a Christian is much more then saying "Lord Lord" to Jesus, it's much more then saying your a Christian-- Jesus Christ Himself said: "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord,Lord shall enter into the Kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." (Matthew 7:21)
So you see, being a Christian is much more than saying a prayer and asking God to save you...it's much more than just believing... the bible says that the devils also believe (James 2:19). Being a Christian is a lifestyle... being a Christian is being a doer... Jesus said : "he that DOETH the will of my Father ". Jesus also said: "whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them..." (Matthew 7:24) and James 1:22 says: " But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." We then look at Romans 2:13 which says: "(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified." You see dear friend just going to church and hearing a someone preach and read the Word doesn't do you any good if you are not a DOER!!!
So when brother David said that the problem is Gods people not doing what Gods book says Gods people are supposed to do... I say NO... You are NOT Gods people if you are not doing what Gods book says to do. Because, Gods people DO what Gods book says to DO, that's what makes them Gods people. And if your not doing what Gods book says to DO... Then I am afraid that you are NOT Gods people and you are NOT born-again and saved.
O' but brother Eric, doesn't the bible say: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9) ??? And I say unto you YES it does say that AMEN to that verse... THAT'S HOW WE ARE SAVED... Now lets look at a question that that very same bible presents to us in James chapter 2 verse 14: "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?" Guess what my friend, that same bible again has the answer... (it has ALL the answers that you need by the way, you just got to look for them). So lets look in that same chapter of that same book and we will find the answer in verse 17-20: "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead being alone Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?"
I would encourage you to read the whole second chapter of James if you think that faith alone can save you, and any man who tells you that (even if he stands behind a pulpit... Where most of the damage is done to Christianity by the way) is a lire and will have his part in the lake that burns with everlasting and unquenchable fire if he does not repent of such heresy.
So, I agree with brother David that there is a problem in America when it comes to Christianity, but it does not lie people that are truly Gods people, it lies with the people that say they are Gods people (Christian) when they in fact are not. They mislead many, they do great damage to the Kingdom of God and they take many on that wide path to hell with them. Consider these words of the Lord Jesus Christ: "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves." (Matthew 7:13-15)
So, is it a matter of "Christian" commitment? Or is it a matter of commitment for the professing christian?

STOP professing with only your mouths people! STOP saying you KNOW Christ, STOP saying that you are born-again and STOP saying that you are saved if you are not a DOER of the Word... STOP LYING!!! REPENT and turn to Jesus, quit playing around with God, He is not playing around with you. "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." (I Corinthians 6:19-20)
If you are saved, then beloved brother God purchased you... HE BOUGHT YOU!!! He gave His only Son for you. Jesus said: "For unto whomsoever much is given, of him much shall be required..." (Luke 12:48) Jesus also said: " For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son..." (John 3:16). God GAVE his only begotten son... How much did He give to save you then? How much is Gods only Son? How much then is required of them that are saved? Them that He GAVE His only Son for?
If you are saved, then beloved brother God purchased you... HE BOUGHT YOU!!! Don't you for one second ever forget that you were BOUGHT... And if you were bought, then someone payed for you, and if someone payed for you, then you had a price tag hanging from your sinful and dead toe:
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 7:1)
"Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them."
(Romans 1:29-32)
We are all worthy of death due to our sin... It's a debt that each and everyone of us owe weather we like it or not... But there is GOOD NEWS and that's that the Lord Jesus paid it all! The bible says: "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." (2 Corinthians 5:21). There is a song that says "I will sing of my redeemer, and His wondrous love to me; on the cruel cross He suffered, from the curse to set me free. Sing, O sing of my redeemer! with His blood He purchased me; on the cross He sealed my pardon, paid the debt and made me free". Consider the price that was paid for you, consider that well known verse " For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son..." (John 3:16). And as you read that verse or any other, don't you dare read it casually, like you may read your morning newspaper.... No-no-no, think about the words that you are reading... Are you reading just a book? Are you reading a fairytale? A pretty good story? I mean, what do you think you are reading here? Do you not know what the bible is? Do you not know that its TRUTH? Do you not know that it is much more than pages filled with just words? Come on, what do the scriptures say? What do they mean? Are we reading just storeys here, maybe some suggestions on some things??? Or are we reading THE WORD OF GOD? THE WORDS OF LIFE? Do you not know that the bible is a way of life for those of us that are in fact CHRISTIANS? It tells us everything that we need to know, it tells us the truth and we live by that truth, AND WITHOUT COMPROMISE!!!
Have you ever thought about the fact that He (Jesus) knew it all was coming... look at Him praying in the garden of Gethsemane: "O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt." (Matthew 26:39).
That's the commitment that Gods people must have... He could have fled, instead He prayed... He KNEW they were coming. He could have ran away and avoided being arrested... Don't you see, He chose to pay the price for you because He loves you!
He layed down His life and so must we also... Romans 6:6 says: "Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him..." that "Him" is Jesus. Then we read in II Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away..." And of course one of my favorite's: "If ye then be risen with Christ seek those things which are above where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead and your life is hid with Christ in God." (Colossians 3:1-3), "Mortify therefore..." (Colossians 3:5), "And have put on the new man..." (Colossians 3:10). I could go on and on with verses like that... but I'm sure you get the point.
Dear Friend, if you are born again... if you are really saved... If you are A CHRISTIAN than the bible says "ye are not your own"(I Corinthians 6:19), The life you now live is something new and different, the life you now live you now live in Christ.
I John says in chapter 2 verse 6: " He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked."
Who was Brother John talking about here? He's talking about Jesus my friend... He's saying when you walk... not just talk!, but when YOU walk, you should walk the way that JESUS walked. When people look at you... let me ask you... Do they see you? DO THEY? or do they see Christ in you, Do they see you WALKING like HIM... what do they see when they look at your walk, when they look at your life... Better yet, what do you see? Because, you can fool those around you...but whats the truth friend? What does God see? Because He sees it all, you cant hide your inner thought from Him, you cant hide whats in you heart from Him...
Did He get all that He purchased? Did He? Have you layed your life down? Have you died to self? " And whosoever doth not bear not his cross, and come after me, can not be my disciple."(Luke 14:27)
Are you bearing your cross? Are you? hold on before you answer..
first lets consider the cross... what does it represent? What happens at a cross? DEATH! The cross signifies sacrifice... Have you sacrificed your life? That's the cross my friend! Do you think that your not to sacrifice your life? Brother Paul wrote: "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind..." (Romans 12:1-2)
The cross isn't a fan thing , its not flowery beds of ease... its bloody, its not pleasant, its a sacrifice, its painful its death friend... Are you bearing your cross?
You cant expect God to save you if you don't give up yourself... But you want to be you, you don't want to die to self and you want to hold to who you are, but what you fail to somehow realize is that's who caused the death of Christ, and that's who causes you the consequences of burning in hell eternally if you don't put pit him to death... He must die my friend, just like Jesus had to die-- CRUCIFY HIM, CRUCIFY HIM!!! That's what they shouted for the Lord Jesus and that's what I shout for you. CRUCIFY HIM!!! (See Romans 6:6, Galations 2:20 & 5:24 & 6:14).
Let me leave you with this... When you got on your knees and cried out to God to save your soul, when you accepted the Lord, WHEN HE PURCHASED YOU-- Did He get His moneys worth? Did He get what He payed for when He bought you?... Or have you robbed Him?

Until next time, I pray that you strongly consider the CHRISTIAN life... And count the cost because you weren't cheap to buy, nor is it cheap to follow Him.

RESPECTFULLY,
A SOLDIER OF THE CROSS,
Eric
